Insurance & Payment

A Note About Insurance

We understand that many patients have insurance and naturally want to use their benefits. Unfortunately, most insurance plans have limited acupuncture coverage, and Medicare does not cover acupuncture services at this time.

After practicing with insurance for many years, I made the difficult decision to transition to a cash-based practice. This allows me to:

  • Spend more quality time with each patient

  • Offer flexible treatment plans based on your needs, not insurance limits

  • Keep my fees as affordable as possible

  • Provide all treatment options without restrictions

I'm happy to provide receipts that you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement or HSA/FSA documentation.

My commitment is to make acupuncture accessible and affordable for our community. Please don't let financial concerns prevent you from seeking care - I'm always willing to discuss options that work for your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located? 160 Harrison Road, Unit 3, Sequim, WA 98382. Patients come from across the Olympic Peninsula including Port Angeles, Dungeness, and Port Townsend.

How far are you from Port Angeles? Just 20 minutes via Highway 101 — very close to Sunny Farms. Many Port Angeles patients schedule appointments to coincide with a trip to Sequim.

Do you accept insurance or Medicare? We are a private pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. While Medicare does technically cover acupuncture for low back pain, it can only be billed by medical doctors — not licensed acupuncturists. Many patients use HSA or FSA accounts, and we can provide a superbill upon request.

How does acupuncture work? Acupuncture works by stimulating the body's own healing systems — regulating the nervous system, reducing inflammation, and improving circulation. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, it looks at the whole person to find and address the underlying issue driving the problem.

Does acupuncture hurt? Acupuncture needles are as thin as a human hair — nothing like hypodermic needles. Most patients feel little to no discomfort during insertion. You may feel a mild ache, warmth, or tingling sensation — this is normal and indicates the treatment is working.

What if I'm afraid of needles? This is more common than you'd think. Acupuncture needles are hair-thin and inserted very shallowly. We go slowly and can start with just a few needles. Many needle-phobic patients are genuinely surprised by how comfortable acupuncture is.

How long have you been practicing and how did you get into acupuncture? I've been practicing since 2014, graduating from Maryland University of Integrative Health with a Masters in Acupuncture. I came to acupuncture after experiencing its effects firsthand — chronic sinus infections that years of antibiotics and surgery couldn't resolve cleared up after treatment. That experience changed the direction of my career.

Have you treated my condition before? Likely yes. The most common conditions I see are chronic pain, peripheral neuropathy, low back pain, insomnia, anxiety, and stress. The best way to find out if I can help with your specific situation is to book a free consultation — that conversation will give us both a clear picture.

Can I receive acupuncture if I'm pregnant? Yes. Acupuncture is safe during pregnancy and can help with morning sickness, back pain, labor preparation, and more. Please let us know if you're pregnant or trying to conceive.

Should I stop taking my medications? Never stop prescribed medications without consulting your doctor. Acupuncture works well alongside conventional medicine and we'll discuss your medications during the consultation.

How many treatments will I need? It depends on the condition and how long you've had it. Acute issues often respond quickly. Chronic conditions typically require more treatments upfront. I front-load appointments early on to build momentum, then gradually reduce frequency as symptoms resolve.

How long will the relief last? This varies by person and condition. Some patients experience lasting resolution. Others find a maintenance frequency that works for them — for example, one patient with knee pain has found that coming every six weeks keeps them feeling their best.

Will I have to come forever? No — my goal is always to resolve your symptoms so you don't need ongoing treatment. That said, many patients choose to continue on a maintenance basis because they feel better for it. That's always their choice, not a requirement.

That's a lot of money. Is it worth it? That's a fair question and one worth sitting with. Most patients who come through my door have already spent significant money on other approaches — medication, physical therapy, injections — with limited results. One of my biggest frustrations as a practitioner is meeting someone who could have been helped much sooner. Acupuncture is an investment, and the consultation is the right place to have an honest conversation about whether it makes sense for your situation. There's no pressure and no obligation.

After Your Treatment

What to Expect:

Post-Treatment Care:

  • Drink plenty of water

  • Rest if you feel tired

  • Avoid strenuous exercise immediately after

  • Take note of any changes to discuss at your next visit
